SABAH DAP Interior mobile service team led by Sabah DAP Parliamentary Liaison Chief for Keningau & Tenom, Dr Benjamin Yapp conducted an informal walkabout at Pekan Tenom on March 2, 2011 to meet the local communities there.

During their walkabout, they listened and record all the complaint from the local. They came across several local residents who requested for registration of new voters and they did on-the-spot registration for the new voters in Tenom.

The team leaders interviewed a number of local residents regarding the problems faced by the people of Tenom. Among the complaints from the public were bad rural road conditions in the rural areas of Tenom and even there was no piped water supply at a Settlement scheme of a few thousand settlers at rural settlement scheme of Lagud, Tenom.

A retired Government officer named Mr Chau complained to Dr Benjamin Yapp that the Settlement scheme there was without piped water supply and the kampung people had to depend on rain water and dug wells for drinking and washing.

According to Mr Chau this problem existed for many years and the local residents there had been deprived of piped water for several decades despite of the promises made by the BN Government.

They told the team they are very disappointed with the BN. The mobile team later re-inspected the old 450-foot Tenom bridge spanning across the Padas River that links Tenom township to Kemabong after having received public complaints from the local people concerning a portion of the concrete structural support that posed a danger to motorists.

Soil erosion below the bridge affected the main supporting concrete structure that would collapse at any time when the Padas River water current washes away the soils and earth that supported the concrete structural support that holds the other end of the bridge. Sabah DAP urged the local authorities concerned to take immediate actions before the bridge collapses.
