Teachers in student conversion case transferred

State education director says that is the best option for the husband and wife.

KOTA KINABALU: Two teachers who were in linked to the controversial conversion of a 16-year-old student to Islam at SMK Kinarut without the consent of the parents have been transferred together with her husband.

According to The Star, Sabah education director Jame Alip said the husband and wife had asked to be posted to other schools late last year after news on the conversion emerged.

He said the wife received threats on her Facebook page.

Jame said the husband and wife were now teaching at SMK Inanam SMK Agama Tun Ahmadshah.

He said it was the best option following the controversy where a rubber tapper claimed that his daughter was converted to Islam in early February without his knowledge or consent.

“It is the best for everyone,” he said after announcing the overall SPM results at the Wisma Pendidikan here yesterday.

Jame said the department was also assisting the 16-year-old girl and her three siblings to be transferred to another school upon the request of her parents. (Free Malaysia Today)
