THE TAMBATUAN Dam Debate as initiated by the Kota Belud MP Datuk Rahman Dalan to challenge the DAP Malaysia National Advisor cum DAP Parliament Leader Lim Kit Siang to a debate to highlight the issues on the highly disputed proposal to erect an irrigation dam in the Kg Tambatuan in Kota Belud District came to a stop when Rahman Dahlan informed the DAP Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu yesterday that the confirmed date of the debate which was fixed by Rahman himself on the 24th of September is to be postponed to a new date in October 2011.
KK MP Hiew has the view that Rahman is not sincere in having the debate and had given excuses to the postponement. This is reflected by his reason given that he was not available, very busy, not in Kota Belud and Kota Kinabalu, having Hari Raya celebration, been oversea, and so on. Now he cancelled the proposed date on the 24th of September because the DPM will be visiting Sabah to attend the UPKO AGM.
All this was much regretted by the DAPs, because all the arrangement was made after confirming the date on the 24th September. The flights were booked, the hotels arranged, schedules of travels made and other events cancelled due to this important event concerning the people in Kota Belud.
It is very surprised that Rahman can’t spare a few hours to come to Kota Belud to attend the debate initiated by him. May be he think the Kota Belud people and their livelihood is not important, and to meet the DPM is more important for him then the problems of the people.
The people are living in uncertainties and worries in Tambatuan and Kota Belud and this is affecting them deeply. DAP is very concern about this, due to the people’s problem is our problem. We are a political party who care for the well being of the people, no matter how busy and occupied we are, we will try our very best to attend to the peoples’ call.
For this we insist that the Tambatuan Dam debate shall be held on the 24th of September, 2011 without any change of venue, date and time. The people in the affected kampongs and in Kota Belud shall be informed to come to attend this debate on “Is Tambatuan Dam Needed?”
We have also gathered information that the organizer (Rahman) has not even booked the Kota Belud Community Hall, and had not even applied for the necessary Police permit to the police department. This showed that Rahman is not committed and not sure whether he wants to go through with the debate.
The DAP team will definite stick to the original fixed date on the 24th September at 9am to wait for Rahman in the Kota Belud Community Hall until he shows up, and we hope to see him turning up for the debate on time.
