PENAMPANG : Two men chose to
end their lives by hanging from the ceiling of their homes three hours apart
here and in Kota Kinabalu, Wednesday.
In the first case, a woman
had a shock when she discovered her 21-year-old son hanging at about 9am in Kg
Ketiau, here.
According to his workmate,
Teddy, the man identified only as Saifudin, worked at a private company and had
showed no signs of depression.
He said the man who has been
with the company for nearly three years had behaved normally and was even seen joking
with colleagues the previous day, adding that their working hours were from 8am
to 4.30pm.
"He even promised to
join a game of Futsal after work but he never turned up and neither did he show
up for work the next day," he said.
District Police Chief DSP
Ratan Kumar Singh said preliminary investigations showed that a lovers spat
might have driven the man to take such a drastic step, adding that police have
ruled out foul play.
In the other incident, a
45-year-old man was found hanging in his single storey semi-detached house in
Austral Park, Kota Kinabalu, at about 6am the same day.
The body of Koo Kian Kok was
discovered by his 52-year-old wife who was about to send their nine-year-old
son to school.
It was learnt that the man
was receiving medication from a rehabilitation centre in Keningau but had
skipped the rehab session after returning to Kota Kinabalu several days prior
to the incident.
According to his wife, she
bought some ko chung (dumplings) on Tuesday to celebrate the Dumpling Festival
with her family the next day.
"Our son saw him eating
some of the Ko Chung when we got home at about 9pm that night," she said.
She said at about 3.30am on
Wednesday, her husband who was sleeping in another room suddenly opened her
bedroom door and asked for forgiveness before closing it.
She only discovered his body
later in the morning when about to send their son to school. (DE)
