THE Kota Kinabalu Marine Police facilities and its jetty in front of the Kota Kinabalu water front adjacent to the newly completed Suria Complex and the Jesselton Point jetty is needed to be moved to a new location which is more conducive for the operation of the marine police and its vessels or petrol boats. This is as suggested by the many people in KK who had met the KK MP Dr. Hiew King Cheu during his walk-about visit at the water front area recently.
Dr. Hiew agreed to these comments and feels that is it time to move the marine police facilities and its jetty away from its present location to a more suitable location which is more conducive for the operation for the marine police who has the duty to safeguard and protect our water front. The present location is no longer able and suitable to cater for the operation of the marine police, and the surrounding is already being built up with huge shopping complex and with other tourism facilities. There will be more other future building and development to be put up soon.
The KK water front is quickly developing into a tourism zone, and the old marine police depot makes this looks ugly and do not match into the nice and beautiful water front tourist walk-about area. This is more so when especially with the marine police petrol boats parked at the jetty. This totally spoiled the beautiful scenery of the KK water front.
Dr. Hiew suggested a possible solution is to move the marine police and its boats to be near to the KK port at Tanjong Lipat water front. There will be plenty of space to house the operation of the marine police, which provide deep water and wider space to provide car parks and even living quarters for the marine police personnel. A larger jetty can be built as the sea front there is not congested.
If we need a face-uplift in Kota Kinabalu City, this is something that must be carried out in order that our city can progress and transform into a beautiful city. Hiew hopes the KK City Mayor, the KK City Hall, the Sabah government especially the Tourism Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun and the Police Commissioner with its Marine police department can look into the matter without further delay. This is for the benefit of the people in KK and Sabah.
