THE Kota Kinabalu KPD Tamu ground in Tanjong Lipat, Kota Kinabalu is indeed needed repair and upgrading to its sheds as claimed by the operators and the people frequent the popular vegetables and fruits stalls.

Edward Ewol Mujie the Sabah DAP Local government and Housing Bureau chief made the inspection with the KK MP Dr. Hiew King Cheu on the 1st of January 2011 and found that the sheds are indeed required repair to the ceiling because the ceiling boards are falling off and the insulation to the sun heat is no longer there. The hawkers there complained about the heat during hot days.

The wide gap between the rows of sheds is at the moment temporary covered with canvas which is not in any way can protect the people from the sun and rain especially those who come to buy their daily food and vegetables. The centre walkway and road are usually wet and made walking difficult.

Edward proposed that the roof between the rows of sheds should be connected and covered with roofing sheets to stop the rain and sun light. The canvas is only making the place looks unsightly and it is not a long term solution. The ceiling must be repaired with good ceiling boards to provide adequate heat insulation in order to let the hawkers and shoppers a more comfortable place to work and shop.

Besides, Edward proposed to KPD and the Sabah Agriculture department that there should be more agriculture show or promotion to be arranged to boost our local agriculture products and also to improve our planting skills and production. This will enable further job opportunities and bring more people to the agriculture field.

He said why should we have to eat and buy imported vegetables and while we can plant and produce on our own. We should be exporting vegetables and fruits by now, and why we can not achieve that goal? There must be something that we can do, and this must be encouraged for the Sabah farmers.
