KOTA KINABALU : Ketua
Menteri Sabah Datuk Seri Musa Aman hari ini menerima sebuah buku oleh bekas
wartawan Surjit Singh Gill yang meninggal dunia akibat kanser, tahun lalu.
Balu Gill Parkash Kaur, 74,
yang diiringi anaknya Davinder Johl menyampaikan buku setebal 407 muka surat
bertajuk 'Reflections' kepada Musa di sini.
Buku yang mengandungi 17 bab
itu, menyentuh pelbagai isu seperti keganasan, ekonomi, pertanian, sosial,
politik, pendatang tanpa izin dan imigresen, kewartawanan dan media,
pendidikan, alam sekitar, tadbir urus yang baik dan hak penduduk Asli.
"Ia merupakan kombinasi
pengalaman zaman kanak-kanak beliau (Gill), penemuan penyelidikan meluas semasa
zaman mudanya dan artikel dalam kolum Daily Express Sunday," katanya
Davinder dalam satu kenyataan.
Buku tersebut disunting oleh
Ketua Pengarang Daily Express James Sarda bagi memperingati ibu Gill, Sampuran
Kaur dan didedikasikan kepada pesakit kanser, pengamal perubatan dan penyedian
penjagaan kesihatan.
Menurut Davindar, bapanya
telah memperuntukkan wang untuk menyusun dan menerbit buku tersebut dan
kira-kira 1,000 buah telah dicetak.
"Saya dan adik
perempuan saya, Raj menasihati ayah kami untuk menerbitkan hasil kerja akademik
dan kewartawanan beliau dalam bentuk buku untuk dimanfaatkan masyarakat dan
lebih penting untuk para akademik, penyelidik, sarjana dan pelajar di instituti
pendidikan tinggi," katanya kepada Musa.
Dilahrikan di India, Gill
berhijrah ke Sabah pada tahun 1961 dan pada mulanya bekerja sebagai wartawan
Sabah Times dan kemudian Daily Express.
Semasa berkhidmat dalam
perkhidmatan awam negeri, beliau bekerja sebagai pembantu di Bahagian Media
Jabatan Penerangan Negeri dan kemudian sebagai Pegawai Publisiti di Lembaga
Padi Sabah.
Bagi mengiktiraf sumbangan
beliau, Gill dianugerahkan Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) pada tahun 1986.
Selepas bersara pada tahun
1988, beliau menyertai semula Daily Express sebagai penulis rencana sepenuh
masa dan kemudian sebagai kolumnis.
Musa juga memberitahu
Parkash bahawa beliau mempunyai kenangan manis bersama mendiang bapanya, Kahan
Singh Bagwala seorang peniaga yang menjalankan perniagaan kedai buku di Tanjung

DeleteMaraat also hoped the interior would continue to develop under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) with the additional appointments of a full minister and assistant minister holding important positions. He said they were Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh and Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Development, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

DeleteIn addition, he said there are three assistant ministers, namely Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin as assistant minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Haji Sairin Karno, assistant minister of Agriculture and Food Industry and Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan, assistant minister of Infrastructure Development. “I am confident of their ability to develop the interior in the next five years,” he said.
