APPLICATION TO BUILD RM280MLN WATER TANK

LAHAD DATU: An application to build a water tank worth RM 280 million had been sent to the authorities to overcome the water shortage in the district.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Haji Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur said he was aware that water was very important in development and daily use, and therefore took immediate steps to apply to build another water tank in the district.

Nasrun in his speech at an dialogue session with the Chinese community said electricity supply in the district would also be sufficient after the implementation of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-gasification terminal at POIC.

He said the terminal would be able to supply up to 300 MW and was adequate to accommodate the use by the people in the district and also the districts nearby.

“I will apply for an allocation to upgrade Jalan Segama and other roads in the district and settle other problems such as drainage, sewage systems, and others.

“I also understand the demand from the people to build a new airport here, and I was made to understand that the study of the new airport is almost complete and the results will be known soon,” he said, adding that an airport was important to attract tourists and investors to the district, apart from providing facilities to the people.

On security, Nasrun said the people in the district need not worry as he was confident that the police were very competent and dedicated in carrying out their duties and this had been proven by the reduction in crime cases in the district.

He also suggested that the people invest and operate seafood restaurants to attract tourists to the district, adding that would not only attract tourists but could also help generate economic growth and development of the district.

Meanwhile, more than 100 Chinese community members comprising of Chinese Chamber president Mok Teng Sang, chairman of the Board of Visitors Tan Cheng Teng, Chinese community leaders, and chairmen of NGOs and Chinese associations attended the ceremony.

Chinese Chamber president Mok Teng Sang said he hoped such programme would help assemblyman Nasrun know the problems faced by people, and cooperate with the authorities to address these problems.

He also hoped the problems could be addressed so that infrastructure and the people’s welfare could be improved.

Also present were District People Development officer Aljen Jhony, community development officer Amat Paduka Kawoh, local community leaders, and the Chinese community. (theborneopost)
