This is a flower tree which bears three type of color, red, pink and white, and it is called Tabebuia Pellida, or Trumpet tree or nick named as Sabah Sakura.
Datuk Pang Yuk Ming welcomes the idea of planting more trees especially in the city area where there is more population and high air pollution. He said by planting more of these “Sabah Sakura” tree will definitely add on to a greener environment and at the same time when it flowers it will beautify the whole city. Eventually, this will help to promote tourism for Kota Kinabalu and Sabah as a whole.

According to the Operation Director of DBKK Joannes Solidau who was present, informed YB Hiew that DBKK has set a target to plant 10,000 trees per year in Kota Kinabalu area with its Landscape Department.
The main objective is “to support and to love green concept and environment awareness”. Mass participation from the community in the city including primary and secondary schools, higher learning centres, resident committees, NGOs, and city coordinators are all welcomed to help to plant more trees in the city. A joint effort will ensure an earlier success in the tree planting campaign.
