PLAN.....Aerial
plan of Pulau Mantukud Kinarut and the land applied for.
A LARGE piece of
sea/land with an area approximately 500
acres in the Kinarut sea front
surrounding a small island Pulau Mantukud has allegedly been applied by a
company. Now according to a reliable source, it is pending for the issuance of
the land/sea title from the Sabah Land and Survey Department.
The complaint received by
the KKMP office recently. The people who brought the map and papers to MP Hiew
King Cheu said they are puzzled over the
reason and logic why such a beautiful piece of sea can be allowed to be
taken away by some company for their private
use and if not for big benefits.
The island is so beautiful
and what will happen to it when the surrounding sea is finally reclaimed and
forcing the island to lose its status as an island. The complainers also
pointed out that according to their information in hand, the Sabah state
government has consented to it and granted approval on the said land
application.
They questioned how this can
be allowed because the Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman has made clear that
the sea is not to be applied for private purposes.
For sure the owner of the
Pulau Mantukud (private owned land of about 50 acres) can object to someone
applying and got hold of the sea surrounding the island. This in fact should be
the first right to be given to the island owner for their purposes.
KKMP Hiew shared and agrees
to the views of the people who brought up the issue. He said it is not normal
for the government to approval such a big piece of sea land to a company for
the private purpose. Secondly, the government did not care for the wellbeing of
the island owner.
Thirdly, the piece of sea in
that area is needed by the people in Kinarut and Lok Kawi, especially the
housing estate and kampongs here. The people here also rejected and objected
the sea to be taken away by private company for their own purpose.
Mp Hiew said this is
contradicting to the decision by the government to conserve our environment and
protect the shore line. The damages will be big if the 500 acres of sea is
reclaimed. They have even objected the islands in Sabah to be sold recently for
the same reason. The Sabah Chief
Minister Datuk Musa Aman should explain to the people the rational and reason
for granting approval on the above mention piece of sea/land in Kinarut.
