PETALING JAYA: Anwar
Ibrahim’s office today brushed off a fresh allegation of sodomy against the
opposition leader, saying the blogger making the claim is notorious for his
lack of credibility.
“The only thing we can do is
to wait and see because we don’t know how true this is,” said Anwar’s personal
assistant, Eekmal Ahmad, referring to the claim that a police report had been
lodged.
In an article posted last
night on papagomo.com, the well-known pro-Umno blogger said he had received
information that a university student had lodged a police report against the
PKR de facto leader, claiming to have been sodomised the previous night.
“If you look at his
writings, you’ll find not everything is exactly credible,” Eekmal said.
If it is true that a police
report has been made, this will be the third time that Anwar is facing a sodomy
charge.
He was charged with the
crime in 1998 and again in 2011, but was found innocent in both cases.
PKR strategy director Rafizi
Ramli has also rubbished the allegation.
“Heard about it, but it is
rubbish bro,” he said in a Twitter message this morning.
In an interview with Sinar
Harian Online, Rafizi also said: “I don’t think the party sees what is written
by Papagomo as a threat. No, no.”
PKR treasurer William Leong
has also rejected the allegation.
“I think the public is tired
of gutter politics. They should be talking about policies,” said Leong in
reference to Umno.
Anwar is currently in
Jakarta attending a forum entitled Peace and Reconcilitation in South East
Asia, which is organised by the publisher of Strategic Review: The Indonesian
Journal of Leadership Policy and World Affairs.
When contacted today, Deputy
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said no such report had been
lodged.
“No report so far,” he told
FMT.
