THE PEOPLE from Taman Sri Kapayan, Austral Park and the surrounding housing estates approached the Sabah DAP requesting the parties’ help in highlighting the issue on why the dry and wet market built and not opened in the 88 Commercial Centre.
Edward Ewol Mujie had inspected the market and made some enquiries on the reason why the DBKK had not operated on this market since its completion some time ago. The market is to serve the people here and provide them with a place to buy their food and vegetables and not having to go to the central town market or supermarket. The food staffs here could be much cheaper and fresh.
The market did not open for business is basically because there is proposal to turn this into a supermarket, but the people said this should not be the case because the market is approved with the design of an open wet and dry market and that should remain as it is to meet the need of the people. DBKK must continue to get this done for the benefits of the people here.
Edward agreed to the people here and he said with the market opened up, this will be a good place for the hawkers to do business, and some hundreds of people can earn their living.
This 88 Commercial Centre will become booming with business and people, and will fast be a popular place for eateries and food courts. He urges the DBKK to arrange this place to be opened soon, so that this new market will not go to waste.
After all, the original concept for approving this market is to bring in convenience to the people here. We saw the need for such a market here, and this actually part of the town planning to disburse the heavy jam and crowdedness in the KK central market. This is the objective to bring some of the shoppers away from the town centre and make this place filled up with more people.
DBKK should start to open to hawkers to apply to move in to do business immediately, the supermarket idea should be dropped because that will only benefit certain people.
