TAMAN NELLY LOW COST FLAT NEGLECTED

THE RESIDENT and owners of the 2 blocks of the Taman Nelly low cost flats in Kolombong Inanam have approached the Sabah DAP Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie to forward their problem and fear concerning the poor stage of their 2 blocks of flats which they said had been neglected by the authorities and the developer.

They complained about the concrete breaking up on the building in its structure especially on the staircases and the front corridors. They worried about these will eventually collapse if no repair work is done immediately. They also said there is no maintenance provided since they moved in many years ago. The Inanam Assemblyman had never bothered to even come to see for himself on what is going on here.

Edward visited the flats and walked around the site with the residents and he observed that the building structure is actually breaking up in many areas. The 2 blocks of 5-storeys flats are in a very poor stage where there are 64 units of residential home. The concrete staircases are showing obvious cracks on the columns and beams.

If these were not made good and repaired, the tendency of the whole staircase collapsing is possible. The outside electrical wiring, compound lights, corridor lights, concrete façade, corridors, and rainwater gutters are falling into pieces. The children playground in between the two blocks is no longer serviceable and the ground had turned waterlogged.

Edward immediately contacted the DBKK concerning the poor stage of the Taman Nelly Flats at Lorong Buah Pala 5, Kolombong, and he was promised that the DBKK will conduct an inspection immediately upon request. The engineers from DBKK did their inspection at once and had prepared some report. The authorities will organize a dialogue with the resident here as soon as possible.

Edward also advised the people living here to form a resident committee to take care of their own property here. It is the only way to solve their daily problems. He said DAP can help to form the Resident Committee (RC), and he told the residents here that DAP had successfully assisted many high rise housing to form their RC. He hopes that the residents here can be united together to help their own selves to bring about a better home in the future.
