‘UMNO-BN IS TOYING WITH SABAH’

By : QUEVILLE TO

KOTA KINABALU: DAP National Adviser, Lim Kit Siang has accused the federal government of being insincere in wanting to resolve the perennial issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

He said this when commenting on the federal Cabinet’s decision to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah, following mounting pressure from the public.

“I do not think there is another Cabinet decision in the 54-year history of the nation which has commanded lower public esteem, trust and credibility,” he said at a “meet-the-people” session organised by DAP Sabah in Penampang on Sunday.

“If an opinion poll is conducted in Sabah, the overwhelming majority of the people would have given the opinion that the Barisan Nasional is not serious in wanting to root out the problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah but only to give the false impression that something is being done to address the problem in order to lure Sabah voters in the next general election,” he said.

He mocked the government for making history by calling for a RCI when it was afraid of what it might uncover and as such, was delaying setting it up.

“This is most dishonourable and disgraceful,” he said.

Lim said Sabahans should not be surprised by such an “indifferent, nonchalant and dishonest treatment” of the illegal immigrant problem by Barisan Nasional considering the history of Umno on the issue, particularly the disgraceful episode of “Project Mahathir” in the early 1990s.

He said the recent statement by a top Special Branch officer had cast grave doubts on the sincerity of the federal government on this issue.

Special Branch officer, Mohd Sofian Mohd Makin, the assistant director of the E2 (M) National Social Extremist Threat Division head, raised eyebrows when he alleged that the opposition was being infiltrated by Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorists and communists.

Political change

Sofian told the press that advocates of RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah were anti-national elements who only wanted to extract political capital from the issue, undermine diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Philippines and incite anti-peninsular sentiments among Sabahans.

“The Prime Minister [Najib Tun Razak] should declare whether Sofian represents the secret but mainstream and official thinking of the Umno-BN federal government on the issue of RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah.

“And if not, whether immediate action would be taken to suspend and discipline Sofian as he has become the worst example of a ‘national social extremist threat’ his division in the Special Branch is supposed to be monitoring,” said Lim.

Besides this, he also urged Sabahans to learn from the past political lesson – that without political change in Putrajaya at the national level, it is very difficult to effect meaningful changes at the state level.

“Sabah has changed the state government four times in the past five decades, but things have got from bad to worse for the people – whether on illegal immigrants who have reduced the genuine sons and daughters of Sabah into foreigners and strangers in their own land in less than half a century, or just basic amenities and infrastructures for the people of Sabah.

“This is why Sabah DAP has coined the slogan: ‘Save Sabah Save Malaysia’, because firstly, Sabah cannot be saved without saving Malaysia; and secondly, if Malaysia is to be saved, Sabah must also be saved,” he said.

He also noted that during his recent tour of Sabah with the various Sabah DAP leaders, Sabahans, like their compatriots in the rest of Malaysia, are impatiently waiting for the 13th general election to see fundamental political and economic changes in the state and country. (FMT)

  12. . Even in far-away, neutral New Zealand we are boiling mad, your BN Gov’t is outrageously crooked and dishonest, & for how many decades now! GOSH! Horrific plunder and robbery, skinning & fleecing the whole country. eg Taib in Sarawak, holding 3 supreme portfolios of Chief Minstr, Finance Minstr & Planning & Resources Minister, plundering for 31 yrs. Your PM pretends nothing’s there…..now he revenges on Rafizi for the NFC cows, even after 3 murders: Ross Boyert (Taib’s former US aide), Manser (native & rainforest activist) & Altantuyaa (Scorpene $$ claimant), & after BN lost over RM300billion in 55 yrs. Yr PM flies a new RM200m plane & Taib rides Rolls Royce. In NZ our PM flies 2nd Class; here Taito P Field, an MP was jailed for a few years for corruption (using Thai immigrants to paint his houses). How long would yr Dr MM, Najib, Taib all the BN/UMNO/PBB cronies, MACC, Police chiefs last in a democratic country like NZ, Aus, UK, US or Canada before going to jail? 1 mth? You elected yr Gov’t to serve you, how can you tolerate them for another day!

  13. Your PM should have been impeached for treason long ago. He is destroying M’sia. BN/UMNO will LOSE BIG. For those low lives & criminals, God' s nemesis will prevail. Look at Gaddafi , then Assad, when Syrians wanted fair & free elections, Assad said there were foreign terrorists wanting to topple the Gov't… now he kills them. Gaddafi and Assad weren't even democratically elected! Just like your PM - handed down from Daddy! Even watching from afar, we have reached the brink now: We call the most horrific curse on those criminals. The people's power, the people's day will come.Alan Newman, New Zealand

  14. BN's collapse has started. It's God's will. After all the people own the country and elect the gov't to SERVE, not to rob them.
UMNO leaders are always creating and raising false issues. Treating people like fools. These morons - the greatest disgrace to Malaysia. These won't last 3 months in bersih, democratic countries like NZ, Aust, US, UK & Canada; and you've given them 55 years & lost what experts assessed at over US100billion = RM300,000million = RM300,000,000,000.
Gerrymandering. Frauds in electoral roll with aliens, duplicates & phantoms. Buying & bribing…all using your money!. Biased EC Chiefs from UMNO. Unfair monopoly of media, heli, vehicles, boats, venues & resources. All using your money to destroy you! Even overseas watchers are boiling hot!

  15. Sabah will stand firm behind Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is a caring leader. And the State is thankful to the Prime Minister who has the interest of Sabahans at heart. “He cares and whatever we request, he will not hesitate to approve so long as it benefits the people,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said at the breaking of fast with the people. Also present were the Prime Minister and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansur, the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin, Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia, Kimanis MP-cum-Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, State Assembly Speaker Datuk Salleh Tun Said and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin as well as State Umno and BN component party leaders. “We will give our full backing to the Prime Minister,” he added. Musa also said the BN was a government whose objective was to safeguard the interest of the people.“It is a government that brings progress and development across the State and ensures a good future for the people,” he said.Musa who is also Sabah BN and Umno chief told the opposition not to waste time coming to Sabah to make empty promises and hurl accusations against BN leaders. “It is as if Sabah is very backward and poor and the people never got help from the government.“I want to tell Pakatan Rakyat not to waste their time in Sabah because the people are now able to evaluate… they can differentiate between a stone and a gem.“We are not talking big but the fact remains that the progress and development in Sabah is far better than that in the states under opposition rule,” the Chief Minister pointed out.

  16. And according to Musa, billions of ringgit had been allocated to Sabah by the Federal government to implement development programmes. He said the people could see the rapid development currently taking place in Sabah.“For example in Kimanis we have the oil and gas project, the Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal which has a Petronas Training Centre to provide the locals with training. “And in Sipitang, there is the Sabah Ammonia & Urea (Samur) project. All these projects will provide jobs for the local people apart from boosting the economy in the west coast area,” he added.Musa said the Integrated Livestock Centre has also been set up in Keningau and in Tenom the Integrated Agriculture Centre. In Sandakan, an Education Hub is being developed and in Lahad Datu the gas-fired power plant to supply electricity to the east coast districts. The Chief Minister also said the road linking Kota Kinabalu with Papar, Kimanis, Bongawan, Beaufort, Sipitang, Sindumin and Lawas in Sarawak, would also be upgraded soon.”The BN is doing all this for the benefit of the people,” he added. Musa also said Sabah’s development was being carried out in a holistic manner without neglecting any district in the State.“We are able to implement all these projects because we preserve the good relations between the State and Federal governments and we also ensure there is political stability to boost economic growth,” Musa added. He said the State government would maintain this growth momentum so that the people of Sabah would continue to enjoy long-term progress and prosperity.

  17. Musa also said through the forestry policy, Sabah has begun to replant high quality tree species where one hectare of land would be replanted with 300 to 400 trees. In 30 to 40 years, he said these trees would be a great source of State revenue – for our kids and grandchildren. “Again I wish to assure the Prime Minister that Sabah Umno and BN will work hard to realise our struggle for the people. “We will not be afraid to face any challenge… we are on the right track and we are committed to helping to strengthen Umno and BN at the national level,” Musa said. Meanwhile, Musa also revealed there were certain individuals who attempted to undermine the BN’s noble efforts by spreading lies and working with the opposition.“They only care about their personal interest and not the party’s. They gave all kinds of reason why they need to change course after having been with the government for so long.“The question is why oppose now and not earlier? They do this when the election is drawing near… surely there is a hidden agenda,” Musa said. The people of Sabah, he said lived in peace and harmony.“Nobody can deny… and this is achieved during the BN rule. The people realise this and they are happy with the development and progress which we have brought to them,” he said. Till today, he said Umno and BN were still very strong and united.“What happened in Tuaran and Beaufort does not mean this peaceful State is now having a major problem.”Musa also thanked the Prime Minister and his wife for breaking fast with the people here.
