Dear Editor,
AS A MALAYSIAN, I’m
concerned with the direction of my country after the upcoming elections. I’m
very concerned with the fact that Anwar Ibrahim, who will be the next Prime
Minister if Pakatan Rakyat wins the elections, received money and support from
the United States government.
Many local and foreign
journalists have reported how US organizations such as the National Endowment
for Democracy (NED) and the Open Society Institute (OSI) have local NGOs and
groups directly linked to the opposition. The NED gets its money directly from
the US government, and OSI is run by George Soros, who most Malaysians will be
familiar with.
Ambiga admitted that Bersih
received funding from the National Democratic Institute (part of the NED) and
the OSI. Another NED group, the International Republican Institute set aside RM
2,544,670 to provide “technical assistance, training, and consultation” to
“state leaders in Penang and Selangor.”
US Senator John McCain, an
ardent supporter of Israel and America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which
were considered illegal under UN law, heads the International Republican
Institute. As a Malaysian, I want to know why the US government is so
interested in the opposition and groups affiliated with it?
Malaysian journalists have
uncovered letters written by Anwar Ibrahim that were sent to NED President Carl
Gershman in Washington DC that discussed sending an international election
observer team to Malaysia. Another letter was sent to George Soros, where Anwar
expressed interest in collaborating with Soros to work together on an
accountability firm.
Anwar has established
connections with neo-conservatives in Washington who had strong roles in George
W. Bush’s presidency. Ibrahim chaired an NGO called Foundation for the Future,
established and funded by the US Department of State and run by Elizabeth
Cheney, the daughter of then-Vice President Dick Cheney.
Anwar is good friends with
Paul Wolfowitz of the Bush Administration and former US Vice-President Al Gore.
As a Malaysian, and as a Muslim, I ask myself if my country will be sold out to
the same people who ceaselessly attack other Muslims around the world. There is
no question that Pakatan Rakyat is some kind of American proxy government waiting
to come to power.
Best Regards,
MALAYSIAN VOTERS
