DR BENJAMIN YAPP, who is also DAP Sabah State Rural Development Bureau Chief, recently visited the West Coast on a fact-finding mission related to rural infrastructure development in Sabah.

During his recent visit to Tawau, he received numerous complaints from the local residents at Andrassy, Tawau, Sabah related to bad rural road conditions, inadequate amenities and lack of rural infrastructures.

He was requested by the local residents to visit Andrassy, Mile 13, Apas Tawau that there were frequently affected by electricity disruptions occurred nightly. He visited the local residents where he witnessed there was actually frequent electricity black-out during the night time.

This normally occur suddenly at few minutes of interval. The village folks were frustrated and complained that their electrical appliances like TV sets, refrigerators and electrical fans were affected and would be damaged by the electricity disruption and sudden black-out.

“This is disgraceful as it proves that Sabah is still lacking behind in electricity power supply system and inefficiency in its delivery systems that needs urgent rectification and improvement.”

DAP Sabah urged the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to take prompt action in order to replace the old near-collapse electricity pole that is about to collapse at any time. When there is strong wind, thunder and lightning, it poses serious dangers to passer-bys, especially villagers, school children and motorists passing by the area.

The villagers had no alternative but to frequently use the stretch of rural road (upper portion of Jalan Kuilu Baru near a Christian Cemetery) from Kampung Kuilu Baru, TASS leading to the main road of Jalan Andrassy, Mile 13, Apas Road, Tawau.

On the other hand, DAP Sabah also received public complaints from the residents of Kampung Kuilu Baru, TASS, Mile 13, Andrassy, Tawau that they have been deprived of piped water supply for decades albeit the Water works department had installed a large water pipe along Jalan Andrassy, Tawau.

There should have connected water pipes to supply to all the villagers from the main road. The villagers there depended on the river and wells to obtain water supply for their daily needs,

DAP Sabah urged the Government to improve the rural infrastructure and amenities for the rural communities who have been long deprived of a better standard of living.
