STAR CITY PURCHASERS FORMED COMMITTEE

THE LONG overdue completion (3 years) of the Star City Shopping Mall has caused much concern and worries from the unit purchasers in its Block 2-c building project which has now abandoned on its construction work.

The concern purchasers have approached the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu for assistance to help them on sorting out the various problems regarding the project, and on how to deal with the developer to achieve for an early completion date.

A special unit purchasers meeting was arranged by the KK MP Hiew on the 13th of August, Saturday at 2 pm. MP Hiew had worked on the case for some weeks to seek more background information on the project. He had also met up with the developer and the advisor to the development project. Some vital information was given to the MP for the purpose of highlighting to the unit purchasers on the reason of the stoppage of work on the Block 2-C building work.

The meeting was conducted with the attendance of some 53 unit purchasers and representatives. MP Hiew started of by expressing his concern over the financial well being of the purchasers which is also on their financial hardship that many of them are suffering. The stop work on the complex had sunk them further into difficulties and facing many other problems.

The developer’s reasons on the stop work was tabled to the purchasers during the meeting, which was rejected outright by them, and they had voiced out what they want is an early occupancy of the units that they paid for. They said they could not trust the developer anymore and they have heard too much of excuses. They also said that their money had been spent by the developer to some other project that is not concerning them.

The unit purchasers later elected a 12-members committee to represent all the purchasers of the Block 2-c of the 6-storey Star City Shopping Mall in Kota Kinabalu.

This is a joint venture project under the SEDCO subsidiary property development company SUDC. The committee shall handle the job of dealing with the developer on all negotiations, information finding, sourcing for legal assistance, proceeding with legal action, handling important matters arising, helping fellow purchasers, liaise with government authorities, agencies and DBKK on matters relating to the project.

They are working on a voluntary basis and received no pay or allowance, except they are coming forward to help to ensure every bodies’ investment on the properties are safeguarded. The secretary of the committee will forward copies of minutes of meeting on all matters arising to all the purchasers for their information and consent when necessary.

The KK MP Hiew thanked them for their kind acceptance to work voluntarily in the committee, and it is going to be a long process before they all can see a completed shopping mall. The only key factor to the successful completion of the mall is total solidarity among the purchasers. All must contribute and work hard together to bring the matter to a good ending.

The purchasers thanked the KK MP Hiew for his time and effort to arrange for the committee to be set up. Hiew answered that he as an MP is to work for the people and this is because the MP is also a public servant who is paid by the people, and he will be there to serve to his best.

The committee later appointed him as the advisor.
