THE HAWKER shed construction at the back lane of the Foh Sang shops for the use of the morning-hour hawkers which was stopped by the DBKK due to the contractor did not followed the foundation details of the drawings. This was exposed by the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu recently. Hiew’s office is situated just next to it.

The DBKK engineer has ordered the work to stop and all faulty foundations to be removed and to reconstruct strictly in accordance to the details of the approved drawings. A copy was handed to the KK MP Hiew for reference.

The contractor had started work to dismantle the partially erected steel structure, and sent in an excavator to dig out all the concrete foundation to reconstruct them into a proper and bigger foundation that is safe and solid.

MP Hiew said all the work must be carried out in accordance to the drawings and specification stated, especially no cutting corners. This is involving the public safety, and therefore the structure must be sound and solid. We cannot have the case like the whole roof of a stadium collapsing suddenly in Semananjong, and luckily there were no one injured or killed.

Hiew wants the DBKK to supervise and monitor more closely on all the work carried out in KK. No matter it is a huge building project or just a small drain work.
