SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) Kadamaian which played its role in protesting against the proposed dam in Kampung Tambatuon since end of 2009 until now, said it will continue to fight alongside the people of Kg Tambatuon to reject the proposal.
Its CLC chairperson Agnes Liewpin said the villagers feared for their safety and livelihood adversely affected if the dam is to be built. She lashed out at Dato' Abdul Rahman Dahlan for his recent statement which was biased.
She said the Kota Belud Member of Parliament did not tell that the destructive impact of the proposed dam will affect Kg Tambatuon but also destroy villages nearby and stretching as far as to Kuala Abai.
"Dato' Rahman should find other methods to overcome food shortage in the district of Kota Belud instead of urging the Tambatuon people to consider for negotiation on the construction of the dam.
“To justify the dam project by saying it will boost rice production and avert rice crisis cannot be accepted because there are cheaper and more effective alternatives like efficient irrigation methods which the government should make an attempt to look into.
“Other methods such as constructing a water reservoir in Kg Talibong Tamparuli for drinking water and consumption, can be built at the existing Kg Sayap Mini Hydro, or upgrading the existing dams in Kg Tambulion and Kg Rangalau.
"Sabah will not face rice shortages if BERNAS is closed down in Sabah because of its monopoly over rice imports and prices, the government should re-establish the defunct Sabah Padi and Rice Board. This Board will look specificaly into managing the padi planting and rice production within the state". she added
Agnes said that the Dam project which encountered fierce resistance from the villagers in Kota Belud especially Kg Tambatuon should not be continued.
She described the attitude of both MP and Assemblyman of the area in a Malay proverb as "Harapkan Pagar, Pagar Makan Padi".
She said the upgrading works of the Batu Sumpah (oath stone) in Kg Tambatuon by the Tambatuon Dam Action committee and SAPP Kadamaian in last August showed that the people of the Kg Tambatuon in Kota Belud rejected the proposed dam.
Tidak payahlah membina empangan ini jika rakyat tidak mahu.

ReplyDeleteAda yang cakap kemarahan penduduk ini bermula daripada kesilapan consultant dari Malaya yang datang mengukur kawasan itu tanpa melalui proses pemberitahuan kepada Majlis Daerah KB. Sejak itu pelbagai spekulasi timbul.
ReplyDeleteGara-gara isu Tambatuon ini, rakyat memandang negatif dengan usaha kerajaan akibat spekulasi dan provokasi daripada pihak pembangkang. Apa cara yang pembangkang ada untuk tingkatkan pengeluaran beras?

ReplyDeleteada baiknya pihak kerajaan mendengar cadangan yang dikemukakan oleh pihak pembangkang.. tidak perlu buang masa menunggu penduduk kampung Tambatuon terbuka hati menerima cadangan itu..
ReplyDeletenamun memandangkan DARD telah memberikan jaminan bahawa cadangan itu tidak akan dilaksanakan selagi penduduk kampung tidak bersetuju, sepatutnya cukup untuk menghilangkan kerisauan dan kemarahan penduduk kampung..
