SABAH WATERS STILL SAFE

NEW POSTING.... Jamil (seated centre) at the handing-over of the Sabah Navy Regional Two commanding post from Anuwi (left) to Rosland at Sepanggar Naval Base.

SABAH waters are still safe despite some minor cases reported a couple of years back. Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Fleet Operation Commander, Vice-Admiral Datuk Wira Jamil Osman said although minor cases such as sea robberies and smuggling activities were reported, it does not mean that Sabah waters are not safe.

“The security situation in Sabah is still under control and so far, we have not received any major cases such as armed threats and kidnappings, as what happened in 2010.

“However, we are always ready to face any eventualities and to collaborate with other agencies such as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Marine Operations Force (MOF) to provide security, including combating small cases off Sabah waters,” he said at the handing-over of the Sabah Navy Regional Two commanding post from outgoing Rear Admiral Datuk Anuwi Hassan to newly-appointed Sabah Navy regional two commander cum submarine commanding officer Rear Admiral Mohd Rosland Omar at the Sepanggar Naval Base here yesterday.

Jamil said the RMN would ensure all their assets are in good working condition to ensure that they can be used at any time when needed.

“So far, I am extremely proud of the achievement of the Sabah Navy Regional Two despite the lack of assets.

“Therefore, each asset must be in good condition to face any possible threat at any time,” he said. (theborneopost)
