By: DAP MEDIA
THE Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu made a promised visit to Labauan with his Sabah DAP team as part of the round the state tour during yesterday on the 15th of February, 2011.
The first stop of the visit was to visit the bus terminal in Labuan, together with the MP was the Labuan PR leaders. The team was warmly welcome by the bus operators where they had informed the MP about various problems that they are facing in the bus operation, especially the cramp site of the bus terminal.
They complained that the new promised Labuan bus terminal is in no sight of completion after many years and it is still abandoned. They are in need of a better terminal to operate their business and for the benefit of the bus commuters.
They also told the MP about their worries on future problems when the new hotel adjacent to their bus terminal is completed and the buses will be forced to move to other location if the new bus terminal is not completed in time.
There are more than 120 buses, big and small buses transporting people in Labuan Island and the congestion is getting worst. The operators also complained about the high cost of the spare parts and tyres in Labuan which they claimed that Labuan is a free-port why these essential items are still being taxed heavily by the government. What is the use of the free-port status, it is just like in non existence?
Hiew informed them he had raised the question in Parliament on when the new central market and the new bus terminal will be finally completed. He was given assurance that the two important developments shall be re-tendered and shall be completed soon. The MP also visited the site and found out that the work seems slow going.
The bus operators further to Hiew complained that all the streets light in the bus terminal are all out of order and had not been functioning for a long time. They hope the LDA (Labuan Development Authority) can immediately repair or replace all the mal-function streets light in the bus terminal to enable safety and convenience of the many commuters.
