ALL nice things have been said about the RM4.6 million SAMUR (Sabah Ammonia Urea) plant project in Sipitang, which its ground breaking was done by the Prime Minister last month (13/02/2012)
The project is said to be good for Sipitang people. According to BERNAMA report, SAMUR once fully operational is expected to provide 400 jobs.
It would create economic impact to Sipitang such as agriculture, hotel and catering, plant maintenance and transportations and therefore provide employment for Sipitang community, said General Manager of PETRONAS Regional Office, Labuan, Joseph Podtung
Podtung didn’t elaborate how and what extent of activities that would impact on the agriculture, transpiration and the like.
My question, why is it a project with such magnitude RM4.6 billion could only provide 400 jobs?
I can only imagine this is very specialised industry in nature, and therefore only need specialised workers, if that is the case, I think Sipitang people isn’t the ultimate beneficiary.
Next how much influence are our YBs in ensuring that people of Sipitang be accommodated into this project, which I’m pretty sure once this project is fully operational, they couldn’t even come nearer to the premises.
We are yet to get the information of the other side of the story of ammonia urea if any. So far we only knew from reading from other countries that have experienced with ammonia urea, a colourless gas with pungent odour, both caustic and hazardous to health. This could be an issue in the future, which it should be explained to people of today.
The Sabah Malay Chamber of Commerce of Malaysia (DPMM) sees the RM600 million worth of contracts, to be awarded to local companies in the RM4.6 billion Sabah Ammonia-Urea (Samur) plant project in Sipitang, as a windfall for Sabah people, particularly local contractors and
ReplyDeletecompanies.
DPMM president Datuk Awang Buhtamam Ag Mahmun said this was an encouraging sign for local contractors including Sabah DPMM members.
ReplyDelete"We believe this project, owned by Petronas Chemicals (PCG) Group Bhd, will certainly provide great opportunities for existing and emerging contractors and suppliers who are keen to participate."
Terbukti Sabah semakin berkembang dalam pimpinan Bn dan projek pembangunan Petronas.
DeleteHe added that qualified local contractors from all chambers of commerce in Sabah stand to benefit from this project, RM600 million is a huge amount, and of course we thank Petronas for understanding our sentiments in terms of business opportunities.

ReplyDeleteConstruction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2012, with commissioning scheduled for 2015.
PCG already operates two urea plants in Bintulu and Gurun, with annual capacity of 750,000 million tons and 683,000 million tons respectively.

ReplyDeletePetronas has decided that all tenders worth RM2 million and below and which do not involve use of high technology would be specifically offered to local companies to bid.
ReplyDeleteThats benefit to the local contractor. Hope they can proven their capability.
DeleteSAMUR will definitely provide tremendous spin-off opportunities for the local down-stream small-and-medium industries and enterprises.
ReplyDeleteFertilisers from this facility will be exported to lucrative overseas markets, but a sizeable volume will still be made available to serve the state's rapidly growing agricultural sector.
Ammonia can also be used for various end applications such as textiles, melamine and adhesives, creating opportunities for enterprising Sabahans to venture into these businesses.
This in turn will create more jobs and spur greater economic activity.
Projek tu sudah tentu untuk kebaikan dan manfaat rakyat.
ReplyDeleteThe project is said to be good for Sipitang people. According to BERNAMA report, SAMUR once fully operational is expected to provide 400 jobs.
