DAP Sabah state assistant
Secretary Junz Wong slammed Tourism Minister Dato' Ng Yen Yen for failing to
protect the interests of PEOPLE of Sabah.
Junz said that the role of
the government was to protect the interests of rakyat, not foreigners! Their
roles were not to just serve the best interest of Sabah but also the people of
Sabah!
"How can Tourism
Ministry came out with decisions which would marginalize our local Sabahan tour
guides further more?" Junz questioned.
Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen
has failed Sabah terribly by insisting on such controversial decision to issue
license for Korea your guides.
She should have held
meetings and public hearings with all the stakeholders involved to get their
opinions before making the decision. Junz said.
Junz warned the danger of
opening up the floodgate of Sabah tourism industry to foreigners citing her
reason that She has to liberalize the market as there was the request by Korea
embassy, as rubbish reason!
China has brought in more
tourists than Korea. Countries like Russia are having remarkable visits in
numbers to Sabah. What happened when they also requested for local tour
licenses? Junz asked.
Our political stand is that
NO issuance of license for any foreigners to operate our guide businesses in
Sabah. If any privilege was to be given, it should be given to the local
Sabahan tour guides. Junz emphasized.
Junz Wong who is also DAPSY
KK Assistant Youth Chief said Most importantly the current mechanism has proven
to be working well. With increasing tourists from Korea means its working well
so where's the evidences that the current system is failing?
Now it's the government part
to show to the people of Sabah that the current mechanism has failed, failing
which means there is no need for any change in Sabah tourism system.
Junz learnt that Datuk
Masidi has arranged a dialogue meeting with all stakeholders involved on coming
Tuesday on 25th Sept. to resolve this issue.
We look forward to hearing
good news from Dato Masidi and hope that he doesn't fail us Sabahans. Junz
concluded.
