FINANCIAL AIDS TO 11 NGOS

GERAKAN Sabah today handed financial aids totaling RM33,000 to 11 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Sabah, in aid of their daily operations and activities.

The aids were distributed to the recipients in three brief handing-over ceremonies at various premises. The first one was held at the premises of Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Kota Kinabalu Chapter in Likas, where a total of four NGOs including Tzu Chi were on hand to receive their cheques from Sabah Gerakan Chairman Datuk Gordon Leong.

The four NGOs are namely Tzu Chi which received RM5,000; Likas Care Haven Children Home which received RM2,000; SJK (C) St. James Teacher Social Welfare which received RM2,000 and Pertubuhan Pendidikan Akhlak Che Hor Khor of Penampang which received RM3,000.

The second handing-over ceremony was held at the premises of The Palliative Care Association, at Jalan Penampang and the recipients are namely The Palliative Care Association who received RM3,000 and Persatuan Thalassaemia Cawangan Kota Kinabalu and TOLUMIS Care Centre each receiving RM2,000. To-date, TOLUMIS Care Centre had received a total of RM4,000.

In the third handing-over ceremony held at the Stella Marris Church in Tanjung Aru, 2 cheques of RM2,000 each were presented to Stella Marris Church and Pusat Krisis Sri Murni Good Sherpherd Sister respectively and 2 cheques of RM5,000 each were handed over to St. Catherine of Siena Church of Putatan and Sarikat Putri Carmel of Tambunan respectively.

According to Leong, the said move was part of Gerakan Sabah’s annual community service in aid of those deserving NGOs who have been contributing to the society in one way or another.

He then noted that in the year 2009, a total of 14 NGOs were selected to receive a total of RM30,000 financial aids/grants which was made possible and available through the office of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

In 2010, another RM30,000 Only financial aids/grants were made available to 10 NGOs in Sabah.

“To date, 21 NGOs have benefitted from the Gerakan Sabah’s annual Community Service Programme in the form of financial aids/grants in the total RM63,000 only, with some selected NGOs having received the financial aids/grants twice over the past 2 years,” Leong noted.

Other recipients whom have received such financial aids in 2009 are Hostel San Damiano Convent, Kiulu (RM2,000); Jireh Home, Tuaran (RM2,000); Jawatankuasa Kuil Nan Tien Kong, Jalan Kiansom (RM2,000); BCCM Inanam Building Fund for SRK Lok Yuk Menggatal (RM2,000); Lembaga Pengurusan SJK (C) Lok Yuk, Likas (RM2,000.00); Lembaga Pengurusan SJK (C) Shan Tao, Likas (RM2,000); Lembaga Pengurusan SJK (C) Chung Hwa, Kota Kinabalu (RM2,000); Lembaga Pengurusan SRJK (C) Yue Min, Donggongon (RM2,000) and lastly Rumah Kanak-Kanak Bondulu Toboh of Tambunan (RM2,0000), said Gordon Leong.

“Gerakan Sabah hopes these financial aids and assistance would assist these NGOs to meet part of their costs and expenses in their services and activities to the community,” Leong concluded.
