PLEASE MOVE KK OLD CUSTOM OFFICE

NOT SUITABLE….the old Wisma Kastam at Jesselton Point, KK.

By: DAP MEDIA

THE KK MP, Dr. Hiew King Cheu proposed the existing old Custom office in front the Jesselton Point Jetty is to be moved to a more suitable location in Kota Kinabalu City. This is basically due to the present office building (Wisma Kastam) is situated in a location which is no longer suitable and the area is very congested for the purpose, and it looks out of place with the activities and environment in front of the tourism point – Jesselton Point.

The custom office is at the moment occupied by the custom preventive unit and the confiscated goods unit. The office is right in front of the Jesselton Point tourists Jetty taking up the whole frontage of the tourists-frequent area, and this doesn’t looks nice and seems not matching to the surrounding environment.

The custom office is having not enough car parking space and the people who goes to the office usually have to park far away and have to walk to the office to do their papers.

Hiew says it will be appropriate and high time now to move the custom offices to a larger premise or building outside the KK waterfront and from the city. By doing so, the custom department can have a bigger working space and more car parking spaces for its staffs and customers. This will also help to avoid traffic jam and congestion in the KK City centre. There are other suitable areas where the custom office can be moved to.

The KK MP Hiew suggests and proposed the existing building can remain there and to be taken over by the Sabah Ministry of Tourism for the purpose of tourism purpose. The building can then be converted to house eateries, handicraft shops or for some other tourism based businesses.

This will be able to help and explode the potential and outlook as a tourist attraction at the Jesselton Point in the KK City. After renovation to the old building we can also see an additional facelift to the City.

Hiew hopes the DBKK and the various authorities can support his suggestion to carry out the potential change to improve the KK City.
