MY FIRST HOME SCHEME IS A DISASTER

PKR Supreme Council Member cum PKR Sabah Secretary Dr Roland Chia is questioning the sincerity of the BN government in providing housing shelter for the lower and lower middle income group.

Dr Roland Chia was making this statement in view of many complainants who came to him and has lamented that it is virtually impossible to own affordable houses in this present economic climate of steeply increasing prices in residential properties with their meager income salary.

Whilst inflation rate will continue to rise, consumer price index that is steadily increasing, there will be hardly any disposable income for the lower and middle income group to own a house in addition to save up for their future.

With the recent declaration by the developers witnessed by the Sabah State Government in a recent property launching stating that it is impossible to own a home in Kota Kinabalu for under RM200,000 just added woes to potential struggling home owners.

With the few initiatives to provide financing scheme seemed to be more of a empty promise rather than reaching out to facilitate struggling home owners.

My First Home scheme an 'ill-advised' policy after it was reported this week that not a single loan application has been approved under Putrajaya’s home ownership scheme for low-income earners.

The scheme, launched by Datuk Seri Najib Razak a year ago, has come to a grinding halt as banks are unwilling to hand out 100 per cent financing for property worth up to RM400,000 to applicants earning less than RM3,000 a month.

“It is obvious that our honourable PM was ill-advised by parties with vested interest on setting the price range of RM400,000 for income earners below RM3,000,” he said in an interview.

He said the association had run checks with banks and found that most applicants were those who have been blacklisted or lack proper proof of income.

“The feedback was simply that if people can’t afford it, then don’t buy. How can you take a 100 per cent loan for such an amount without commitment?” he asked.

PKR Sabah is highly suspicious that it is just a political gimmick to win votes rather than genuine concern with the need to provide housing for the marginalized society and also the younger generation who are forced to live in with their parents or grandparents.
