NG YEN YEN DEADLY WRONG

THE TOURISM Minister Ng Yan Yan is wrong to even had insisted to allow Korean to come to Malaysia and Sabah to work as a local tourist guide. She said this is a request from the Korean to use their people to be the tour guide for their tourists coming to Malaysia.

This is because there is no or not enough Korean speaking guide available here. The minister is insisting and wanted to go ahead with this move to allow these Korean to come in.

Her decision on this caused heavy dismay, anger and disagreement among the local tour guides. The recent meeting with the Sabah Tour Guide Association (STGA) with the Minister NG had turned out to be a long wait for two hours and she didn’t turn up to meet them.

KK MP Hiew King Cheu felt very disappointed with her due to the move to allow the Korean tour guides to work here, and take away the work of the local tour guides who can speak Korean too.

The point is that may be Minister Ng did not know how bad is the impact by doing so, and how can we allow a foreigner to come to our own mother land to introduce our tourism attraction and not by our own people. It is utterly nonsense and it is a shame to our countrymen.

According to the local tour guides and the travel agents here, this is absolutely not applicable and they said this will have an adverse effect on the industries. Just imaging if the Korean can be allowed to do so, then the other countries could do the same.

Hiew said this has reflected that the government especially the Ministry of Tourism has failed miserably in this aspect and in their work. The foreign tourist is coming to visit Malaysia and the top priority is to train our tour guides to speak various foreign languages in order to cater for the need.

The popular languages are Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Italian, German, and others.  The Ministry should provide language course to enable our tourist guide to speak multi lingo to need the demand and to enhance the availability of the tourism industries.

To learn a foreign language is simple and if special courses are provided by the Ministry of Tourism, we can be sure that there will be plenty of Korean speaking tour guide in Malaysia. It will be worthwhile for the Ministry to give free language courses to our tour guide and to build up the strength of the tourism industry. This will be much beneficial to the country when compared to using RM1.8million to set up a Face Book account.

We must not let this happen in Sabah and Malaysia. We don’t want to see the livelihood and income of our local tour guides being taken away.
