SPEEDBOAT CARRYING LABUAN MP OVERTURNS





LABUAN : At was a shocking experience for Member of Parliament Datuk Haji Yussof Mahal and several others when the speedboat they were on board developed a leak, causing water to gush into the boat, Friday evening.

The boat tilted on its side and gradually overturned. The MP and the other passengers managed to stay afloat using lifejackets provided by the skipper.

All of them were fished out of the water by a passing vessel and others.

No one appeared to be injured but all were visibly shaken when they were brought to the Marina. The overturned speedboat was also towed to the marina.

According to a witness the incident occurred at about 5.30pm and lasted about half an hour.

The boat with the passengers was speeding out of the Marina and was entering the high seas when the mishap occurred.

It was noticed by many other seamen. It was learnt that the MP and others were heading to Menumbuk en route to Kota Kinabalu to attend a functions.

The boat is owned by Labuan Cooperation (LC) of which the MP is the Chairman. However, he could not be contracted for comments.
