NAKED UNDER THE SUN!

NAKED… picture shows the walkway without cover and the timber board-walk sitting area.

TOO many complaints received by the Vice Chairman of Sabah DAP cum Local Government And Housing Bureau Chief, Edward Ewol Mujie concerning the pedestrian walkway linking the ferry jetty to the front gate in the KK Jesselton Point is now being brought up again due to there is no proper cover/shelter to its long walkway.

All the ferry passengers and tourists to and from the islands and F.T. Labuan have to run or get shocking wet during rainy days and get burn in hot sun.

There are canvas covers provided in front of the shops (gerai) for the purpose of providing shelter to the pedestrians coming in and out, but very unfortunately this was taken over by the operators of the shops for the sitting of their customs blocking the walkway in front of the shops. The pedestrians will have to walk outside under rain and sun.

The people brought Edward to inspect the walkway and it is true we really need a cover over the open walk way to provide shelter for the people and especially for our valued tourists. Edward urges the management of Jesselton Point to immediately install the overhead canvas cover to rectify and ease the situation.

The cost should not be high, because it is using only light weight structure and white canvas sheeting to construct the cover to the walkway. The cover can extend to not only cover the walkway but also cover the timber board-walk and sitting area to provide a comfortable and shaded area for leisure and food. This will also help to beautify and improve the look of the ferry jetty and as a tourist attraction spot.

There are hundreds of overseas tourists passing through the Jesselton Point jetty, so it is very important to upgrade and install more high standard hygienic and clean toilets. The present two toilets are already so dirty and broken down, and these are no longer enough and fit for the use of the tourists. We don’t want our valued tourist to have a bad impression that Sabah is not worth coming back to visit or tour again.
