HURT....Johnny’s
head and leg injury.
THE RECENT incident that
involving a large section of ceiling in the QE1 medical ward, where a large
piece of concrete fell down and seriously hurt a patient who was in the ward.
The incident was not being
published with great details, and the seriousness of the matter was not
highlighted to the public, and the worst part was that the Director of Health
and the KKM had not even commented on any thing concerning the incident that
could have caused the life of the patient. The general public felt that this is
the negligence on the part of the hospital management.
The injured patient from
Menbakut is an unfortunate person being in the first place having his leg
disability for two years now, and has to be taken care of by the wife in the
hospital. The wife has to quit her job in order to take care of him full time
in the hospital while having to take care of their children too.
It is real tough on her to
do all this caring job. The friends of hers knew about the case of the falling
concrete ceiling and hurting her husband seriously which was reported not
disclosing with the details, and they approached the KK MP office for the help
of the MP Hiew King Cheu to bring out the case to the notice of the hospital
the KKM and for the public notice.
MP Hiew was told that on the
14th of July, at 11 am the patient Johnny Bin Kando (36) had been knocked on
the head and received 4 stitches on top of the head and 5 stitches at the back
of the head after a huge chunk of concrete fell down from the ceiling in the
medical ward of QE1 in KK.
His legs were hurt with many
scratches and cuts. He was resting on his bed at that time, and it was lucky
that he was not killed. The family claims that the hospital should bear full
responsibility towards this mishap and they should receive special care and
attention. They don’t want to sustain more pain from the previous pain and
hardship.
MP Hiew views this case as a
full liability on the part of KKM and the hospital concern and in this case
there should be a full inquiry and investigation to be conducted. The case
should not be sweep under the carpet and be forgotten. He advised the family to
take legal action against the KKM and the Director of Health Sabah for full
compensation.
The incident signaled that
the management of our hospitals in Sabah is really reflecting their slackness
and inability to provide good services and a safe place for the patients.
How can the patients
received more suffering and hurt due to the fault of the hospital? There were
previous cases of malpractice and carelessness that caused serious injury, and
even life lost as highlighted. The Director of Health should give the public an
explanation and report on the matter. (DAP Media)
