SEWERAGE PIPING WORK UPSET RESIDENT

THE SEWERAGE piping work in Kolombong had upset many road user and residents here due to the digging work along the main road entering into Taman Nelly and the rest of the kampongs like Kampong Nunton.

The people here are angry with the excavation work here which is blocking up half the road causing heavy traffic jam and created much inconveniences. The work had actually completed sometime ago but unfortunately this stretch of pie laid had to be reopened due to some technical reasons. The contractor is actually re-excavating the whole stretch of pipe line to redo. The time needed to do this is unknown.

KK MP Hiew received many complaints from the people here and was brought in to inspect the road where the sewerage pipes were laid. He saw the deep excavation work along the road and most part of the road surface already showing sign of settlement and cracks. He understands from the workers there that the working condition is very difficult and time consuming due to the very deep excavation in the trench. The other reason is the cars are continuously coming.

The people said they don’t understand why the pipes were laid and now they have to dig it up again and relay. This is causing them a lot of trouble and grievances to the motorists. After checking with the person in charge of the project, it is learnt that the pipe laid previously cannot be used due to the problem with the difference in the invert levels.

MP Hiew said this is not acceptable and he urges the contractor to do work even on a 24 hours basis and carry out the work at night would reduce the traffic jam and inconvenience. At the moment the work is only carried during day time and no work on holiday. The better solution is to abandon the present method of work and to adopt the “pipe jacking” method underground for not to disturb the traffic flow along this road. He said what ever it is the work must be carried out with speedy progress and with minimum disturbance to the traffic flow here. He hopes the contractor, DBKK and JKR can work closely to ensure this work is completed soonest possible.
