LAHAD DATU: Silam Umno
members criticised The Division's Wanita Umno Chief for using words during her
speech at the Umno Silam delegates meeting at Dewan Sri Perdana Lahad Datu,
recently, that could weaken the party's team spirit.
Umno Kg Panji Laut II
member, Kadir Kalbi, said the speech by Umno Wanita Chief, Saleha Abdul Wahid
before 1,000 representatives bordered on racism and can weaken the team spirit
among Umno members.
"Among others, she had
said, that candidates chosen for the next election here must be born in Silam
(Lahad Datu) whereas the question of who is the BN candidate is determined by
Umno leadership, "said Kadir.
According to him, as Head of
Women in Lahad Datu Parliamentary Constituency covering Kunak, Lahad Datu and
Tunku, Saleha should not be saying words like that because it might offend
other Umno members and their leaders who are lobbying.
In this regard, he urged no
further speeches from Umno leaders whether "intentional" or
"unintentional".
"We should redouble our
efforts to inculcate greater unity and freindship among members of Umno and
other BN component, rather than adding clutter to the minds of the members
themselves, "he said.
He also invites Umno members
not to be thinking of selected candidates but instead focus on how to
strengthen the party and block the support of the opposition.
Kadir said Prime Minister
Najib Tun Razak had repeatedly advised Umno members to not trigger internal
problem for any matters arising can be discussed amicably.
"... moreso if the
speechs have racist elements and those who touch on personal or sensitive
issues should be avoided , "he said. (DE)
