UMNO’S ISLAM GETS MORE KUDOS

MACHANG : The struggle to uphold Islam in Malaysia as championed by Umno is on the right track and earned praise from leaders of Islamic countries, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

The Prime Minister said this was unlike the Islam championed by PAS, which uses hudud law as campaign material for general election.

“Egypt regards Malaysia as a model Islamic state. We pledge a developed nation by 2020. The pledge will be fulfilled,” said Najib.

Najib said he wanted to see winds of change blowing over Kelantan.

“Haji Hadi (PAS president) said hudud will be implemented when the cockerel crows. Well, the cockerel has since died of old age,” he said at “Jom Beraya Bersama Perdana Menteri” programme at SMK Hamzah here today.

About 30,000 people of various races attended the event to mark the prime minister’s first visit to Machang district.

Najib praised Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat for not supporting the trampling of posters, showing of buttocks and flying of a new flag recently.

“For this, I wrote a letter to thank Nik Aziz.”

He said what Kelantan residents want would be put in the Barisan Nasional election manifesto and was impressed by the people’s strong support for Umno and BN.

“I feel like calling for general election right now.”

Najib also announced that 200 houses in Machang would be repaired soon.

He also visited former Machang Umno Division Chief, Datuk Yaakub Mohamad at Batu 23, Labok before returning to the capital. (Bernama)
