FIASCO IN SRJK/SM CHUNG HWA TENOM BOARD?

Dear Editor,

WE The Undersigned who are legally elected as Chairman of the two school board i.e; SRJK© Chung Hwa Tenom and SM Chung Hwa Tenom are very much regretted with the news reported in the local news (Daily Express Oct 21) regarding the above matter.

The statement quoted by the Chairman of Tenom Chinese Chamber of Commerce (TCCC) Datuk Teo Ming Chung when nominating the so-called Chairman of the two school board namely Kapitan Wong tet Yun for SRJK © Chung Hwa and Kapitan Yong Yau Cheng for SM Chung Hwa and their members of the two school board are very much misleading and irresponsible as:

(a) The two schools was built by the Chinese communities of Min Nam and Hakka group of Tenom early in the year 1925 and 1931 respectively. In 1945 the two school was combined to be called Chung Hwa School and further expand to secondary and high school in 1950. The primary school was then called SJK(C) Chung Hwa while the higher school called SM Chung Hwa. The TCCC was only established after 1950, and never built or owned the two schools. The Board of Directors of the schools was always been elected by the members of the two school through general assembly meeting in according to the constitution of the school Board. TCCC or DatukTeo Ming Chung has no rights in nominating the chairman or the Board members.

(b) The latest constitution of the two school Board was drafted and forwarded to Jabatan Pelajaran Sabah for approval in 2006 where the constitution similar to the one in 1996 which approved by Ministry of Education. There is no so-called the year 2010 new constitution since then. This issue can be easily checked with the Jabatan Pelajaran Sabah. Therefore TCCC claimed that they are refering to the 2010 constitution in nominating the two school Board members is very much confusing and misleading.

(c) The TCCC has never provide any financial aid or moral support to built schools since 2003, instead has try their very best to interfere any avctivities conducted by the present school board in fund raising for the two school. Futhermore, the had failed to pay rental of 82 months amounting RM24,600.00 to the school for renting the shop lot space owned by the school. They should also know very well who actually caused the problem of getting subsidy from both state and federal government. But anyway, we are very much pleased that the government understand the needs of the school by continuing in providing subsidy funds.

(d) The Education Department had never requested the TCCC to form a new board for the two school as quoted by them. We are very very much concern that this matter is able to be clarified by the Education Department of Tenom wheather this information are true. We will be gratefully if TCCC could provide relevant document to the authority to make clear that their claimed are true.

WE DARE to challenge the TCCC to take legal action against us if they feel that the present legally elected school board are against from the law and devise from the wishes of the Chinese communities in Tenom.

We,
