NO BENEFIT FROM BATU SAPI BY-ELECTION?

UNTIL today, Barisan Nasional government has not shown any sign of bringing goodies, surprises and bundle of cash for Sandakan, whereby this is the ‘usually and normal practices’ for BN in all by-election.

The Pakatan Rakyat Batu Sapi by-election director Dr. Hiew King Cheu today expressed his regrets and disappointment of the Sandakan people especially those in Batu Sapi.

The education fund distributed by the BN for the schools during the Hulu Selangor by-election was RM 30 million, for Sibu received RM 10 million, and now Sandakan-Batu Sapi only RM 700,000.00 for the 10 schools in Sandakan.

Why is this happening to Batu Sapi and the schools here needed money more than anyone else, claimed one school board chairman Mr. Lee. The schools in Sandakan especially the government aided primary schools are waiting for fund to upgrade their facilities and buildings.

They are all hoping that the BN during this by-election will distribute a handsome sum for each school, but now it seems impossible. In the past by-elections, the announcement always turned out to be empty promises and it is the trick to fish for votes for the BN candidate. Who actually received the cash?

The Assistant Minister of Education Datuk Wee Kah Siong said in today’s newspaper that all school must apply for the government funding before allocation is to be made. In the real fact, even the schools who needed funding had applied for financial aids, it is not necessary that they will get the money.

A case was brought out involving one school in Sandakan where Wee announced that a sum of RM8 million was given to the school, but the school said that there is no such funding made to the school. Instead the money is for a government school to be built on their school land taken from them.

Dr. Hiew questioned that in the past 11 by-elections, the schools in the area received big amount even up to RM3 millions, did they applied for the funding as mentioned by Wee? Why now in Sandakan we have to apply, and why can’t the allocations be given like before to benefit our poor schools in Batu Sapi? Or the government has no money to help Sandakan?

As for the infrastructure development and other needed facilities, there is no announcement of fund allocation until today, will there be any announcement made, this is still waiting to be seen. Sandakan deserves much more allocation, and the people have been very patient and keeping quiet all this while. They were hoping this by-election can be given some money and now seems in vain.

Dr. Hiew urges the Batu Sapi voters not to support the BN candidate because the BN doesn’t care for you. Since you can’t get the ‘goodies’ from the BN, the Batu Sapi voters should vote the Pakatan Rakyat PKR candidate to allow him to at least voice for you in Parliament.
