MASAKOB WATER FALL COLLAPSED

FALLEN……The fallen hill slope covering the sheds.

THE famous Masakob Water Fall in Tambunan, 62 Km from Kota Kinabalu is destroyed by a hill slope slide and being covered up by tons of earth fallen down from the top of the hill. The sheds and the benches in the beautiful waterfall garden were destroyed. The entrance to the waterfall is locked and no one is allowed in.

This is a hot tourist frequent spot with a beautiful waterfall and is a resting place for many travelers and for the family picnic. The collapsed slope and the debris fallen on to the resting place were not removed for more then a year now. The people begin to wonder how come the government and the people representative did not take action to clear and rebuild the place.

Sabah DAP Advisor cum Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu was told by the Tambunan people about the case and he went to the Masakob waterfall site, and found it is true that the hill slope had collapsed and covered a big portion of the park. The sheds were destroyed and there are no people on site.

Hiew said he couldn’t understand why there is no quick action to restore the beautiful site for the benefit of the people and even for the passer-by to take a short rest. Hiew urges the government and the local people representative to take stern action and get the whole site reinstated.

There are other important facilities to be added if the work on the redoing of the park is started. Hiew suggests that there should be more sheds and sitting arrangement which can fit into the natural environment, and must provide with ample parking space and toilet facilities.

Besides, in the area some jungle walking tracks can be created and constructed for hikers and for those who like the nature. It is very useful to rebuild the Masakob waterfall area due to the waterfall is a part of the huge forest reserve behind it and it is on the way to Tambunan.

This waterfall can also help to boost the economy of the Tambunan area too, if it is developed to a nice place where the foreign tourist can come more often. Some active tourism promotion can be made to attract our foreign and local tourist to visit the place. It will be nice if we can build some tree-houses here for the tourist. Tambunan really needs to bring in more tourism industries to help its falling economy.
