THE Sabah DAP Tg. Aru Branch Chairman, Dr. Felix Chong Kat Fah was in Tanjong Aru town on a walk about visit to the area on last Sunday to learn more about the various issues raised by the people here. He was accompanied by the Sabah DAP Advisor Hiew King Cheu, Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie, PKR Putatan Chief Mohd. Hasnan Hj. Abd. Ghani and Christopher Chong.

The Tanjong Aru folks welcomed the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) group to visit them and they said the PR is the only political group who had visited the people regularly and care about their well being. This is to be complemented and encourage. They told the group of the various problems and hope their problems can be brought up to put right.

Dr. Felix said the Sunday hawker stalls behind the shops should be given more publicity and it is not known to many people that there is a Sunday market behind the shops. There is a need to expand the Sunday market and to bring in more people to do their shopping here. This can help the hawkers to make some money. At the moment, the hawkers here cannot make money because lack of customers and very few people know of their selling here.

When the group came to the market in Tanjong Aru, there is a sight that you can’t believe because the market is totally empty and there is no business at all. The stalls are empty and many hawkers had moved out. The DBKK must consider and plan a new strategy to improve the business here.

The Tanjong Aru market used to be a popular marketing place for many people in the area. The food stalls selling economy mee here in the morning had stopped selling and the banana stalls also faced the same problem. Dr. Felix and Hanan shared the same idea that the DBKK should open up these stalls to enable those who need to do some hawkers business here, even for a free rental basis (FOC).

Tanjong Aru should be given more emphasis to improve its economy status and to make this place a lively place again. The people here needed some immediate plans to uplift the area and to create some activities to bring the people here.

Hiew said the abandoned land which is used to be the civil servant quarters area should not be left idle and let this place turning into a jungle. The large piece of state land should be used to house certain government departments and agencies.

This government departments and agencies are using premises in the KK town where the existing place is very congested and cramp, why can’t they move to this vacant piece of 100 over acres of government land and get out from the city center? If these government departments moved to Tanjong Aru definitely will benefit the people here, and it will become lively again.
