SJK (C) YICK NAM AND ZEBRA STORY

DANGER….. Zebra-crossing needed in front of school.

By : DAP MEDIA

SABAH DAP Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie who is in charge of the Kota Kinabalu MP office 2 received many complaints from the parents in the SJK (C) Yick Nam in Inanam on the difficulties faced by the primary school young student in crossing the heavy traffic road in front of the school.

The parents said that the crossing of the road is very difficult and dangerous especially when there are a lot of cars passing by in the morning and noon time. Sometimes, the parents have to take the risk of rushing to cross over.

They asked for the help of Edward to get the long over due yellow Zebra crossing to be marked on the road in front of the school for easier crossing and warning to the drivers. This will slow them down when there is a crossing made there. Edward told them he will seek the consent and approval from the JKR, and DBKK to have the Zebra-crossing installed.

On the other hand during the inspection of the location, Edward observed that the orange color ‘Flexi-poles’ erected on the road centre were total knocked off by cars. There is only a few left standing in the middle of the road.

WASTE…. Flexi-poles in the centre of road.

There was a whole line of closely erected Flexi-pole serving as a divider and barrier in the centre of the road, and this was installed not long ago. The ‘Felxi-poles’ are not durable and cannot withstand the heavy traffic and knocking by the cars passing by. They are either cut off or being up rooted by the cars.

Edwards said that it is not cheap to install the flexi-poles especially involving so many in the middle of the road. The worst part is that this pole did not last for long. It is almost RM250 per pole including installation cost. In Kota Kinabalu, there are many such flexi-poles had been installed but eventually disappeared shortly. This cannot serve for long term purpose, and the orange color easily disappears under the sun and rain. The reflective band always comes off losing its purpose to warn drivers.

Edward urges the JKR and DBKK to be more careful in using these flexi-poles, and only use them in an appropriate manner where these can not be simple damaged. The waste of public money must be reduced by careful planning on use of the flexi-poles. He feels that the flexi-poles are not being properly utilized and installed with the wrong use.
