GUM-GUM HOUSES WON’T BE DEMOLISHED

SANDAKAN:  The state government will not demolish the houses in Gum-Gum if the residents move into the new People Housing Project (PPR) that has been constructed in the area.

Gum-Gum assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Haji Mohd Edris gave the reassurance as the opposition had turned the demolition rumour into a political issue.

“It is just a rumour as our Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, had also clarified during his last visit here in Gum-Gum that existing houses in this area will not be demolished.

“As a government, we are concerned not only about the people’s needs but also their safety. The PPR was constructed here to give comfort to residents in this area that were always affected by flash floods,” he said.

Speaking at the Merdeka Raya celebration organised by Rela at Pekan Gum-Gum yesterday, Zakaria advised residents in Gum-Gum not to believe the rumour spread by the opposition.

“It’s an undeniable fact that the government has not only brought economic development to our state but also enhanced the solidarity among the multi-cultural people,” he added.

State Rela director Samasuddin Haji Lawe also joined local residents in the celebration which was enlivened by traditional dance performances.

Meanwhile, Zakaria expressed his gratitude to all Rela members who dedicated their service during the recent visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to Sandakan. (theborneopost)
