LISTENING.....
Hiew and Datuk James listening to the hawkers
THE PAKATAN Rakyat walk
about was conducted in Papar to listen to the people, and at the same time
meeting them to pass on to them the message on the need to change the
government.
The PR leaders present during
the walk about were the KK MP Hiew King Cheu, the PKR Papar Chief Datuk James
Ghani, Sabah DAP Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie, Wanita Chief Noriah Onong,
Andrew Lee Chee Kiong and other leaders of PKR and DAP.
The people in Papar welcome
the visiting team and they told them of the problems and requests on the spot.
They wish the PR leaders can come more often to Papar so that many other
problems can be resolved especially those in the kampongs.
The central market here is
indeed having many problems like the cleanliness, dirty drains, foreigners
sorrowing the business of the locals, poor lightings, and no lights provided to
the central area, burglars frequently break in, bad 1st floor business, and
foreigners doing business surrounding the market.
The people want the Papar
council to take immediate action to put things right here, because their
livelihood is seriously affected. One hawker said that at times that she can
even earn one ringgit in a day and she has to pay expensive stall rental to the
council.
The Papar District Council
should rearrange the people who are coming in here to do business and it is
proposed that the people who are selling on the streets to be moved to fill up
the empty stores in the 1st floor of the market.
This will enable the street
to be cleared of hawkers and more people will go to the 1st floor to buy their
needs. The 1st floor is left empty is really a waste and at the present only a
few hawkers is struggling to survive there.
Datuk James Ghani felt very
sorry about this and he hope the Papar Council will do something to help these
poor people there. He also wishes that the council can readjust the rental of
the 1st floor stores and give everyone a standard rate. There is a different of
rates giving to the hawkers here.
The people also told the KK
MP Hiew that they wish the car park in front of the market to be widened and
increased so that more people would like to come to the market to do their
shopping.
