BAD INFRASTRUCTURE AT WAWASAN TERMINAL

By: DAP MEDIA

THE commuters using the Kota Kinabalu Wawasan Bus terminal complained to the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Dr. Hiew King Cheu concerning the poor condition of the infrastructure and lack of facilities at the terminal.

During the inspection conducted by the KK MP, he found the complaints are valid, and in deed DBKK has to pay attention to the problems arising there. The bad condition of the road is the major complaint besides there are request to have more shelters, covered walkways, and sitting arrangement. The need for more toilets is also requested.

The roads and parking areas are cracking up and filled with deep pot holes with pools of water which caused the area to be muddy and difficult for the people to walk especially during rainy days. The bus drivers complained that why newly paved roads failed just after a short use.

One Mr. Chong said it is not right to have roads cracking up so soon after completion and there must be not following the proper engineering specification set down by the authority. The bus stop is still new and this should not happen.

The commuters also complained to the MP that they need to walk a long distant from the Wawasan Plaza in the hot sun and in the rain, and there is no shelter and covered walkway for them to seek cover before reaching the buses. They requested the DBKK to install these for them.

Dr. Hiew commented that the road and parking areas in the bus terminal were not properly done and the base course seemed to be very thin, especially the thickness of the asphalt (premix layer). He said he is not sure of the specification of that particular contract but definitely in the bus terminal of this size with heavy buses loaded with passengers, the road and parking will not be able to sustain the loading.

On the portion on the left wing of the terminal for the City-bus was tarred but now the tarred surface has broken up and disappeared. The City-buses has to move now to the front outlet to pick up passengers. It was make to understand that the contractor didn’t execute a good job.

Hiew had enquired to the DBKK for further information to this immediately and hope to get a quick reply from the person in charge. He hopes DBKK will look into the matter with urgency and this bus station is important to the thousands of commuter everyday.

The PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had also promised much to improve the bus terminal and its service not so long ago, but where are his promises and the millions of Ringgit allocation? He must have forgotten all about it. Is this another one of the empty promises of the Barisan National government?
