UMNO DESTROYING MALAY SUPREMACY?

Dear Editor,

I refer to the statement issued by Sabah Wanita UMNO Chief, Senator Datuk Armani Mahiruddin, suggesting the action by PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah, who called for the abandonment of the Malay Supremacy (Ketuanan Melayu) as an act of treason and pawning the dignity of the Malay race, Daily Express, 3rd December, 2010.

Its a pity to see the Sabah Wanita UMNO Chief behaving in a manner that portrays her low mentality and failing her memory on who the real traitors that made the Malays mockery to other races. ‘Come on lah’ Datuk Armani, speak up your mind in an intellectual and professional manner if you want to gain the respect of the rakyats.

You shouldn't just speak up for the sake of pleasing your boss at the top with the hope of getting more material rewards such as road projects which your company had gained in the past to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

To me, the term 'Malay Supremacy' is simply bullshitting and fooling of the Malays by UMNO leaders. There's no need to talk of abandoning the Malay Supremacy because the Malays had been downgraded to 'bangsa pariah', a low caste ethnic and this was not the work of Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah or the PKR government, but rather the work of the UMNO/BN leaders!

What rubbish are the UMNO leaders talking of Malay Supremacy when the villages that the Malays have settled and toiled for decades were simply destroyed and houses being burnt under the UMNO/BN government?

What have the UMNO leaders done to make the Malays supreme in the more than 50 years of their rule in Pulau Pinang? Yes, UMNO did a lot to the Malays by selling the their lands and lands that have been gazetted as ‘wakaf’ lands to the non-Malays which led to the Malays becoming Tanjung Malays who were forced to settle along the sea coast.

If Datuk Armani tried to relate the call by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah for the abandonment of the Malay Supremacy as one that is similar calling for the abolishment of the Malay Rulers's Special Rights, then Datuk Armani should not forget the record that it was UMNO who humiliated the Malay Rulers in 1984 to the extent of stripping the Malay Rulers of their immunity and other privileges which they have enjoyed in the past.

Datuk Armani must realize that the attainment of economic and social achievement of the Malays for the more than 50 years under UMNO/BN rule is very disappointing and embarrasing.

This has put shame on the Malays and this is also the very reason why UMNO was so quick to condemn Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah for the failures made by UMNO leaders themselves.
