WHY PETRONAS JV WITH FOREIGNER?

By : HJ AMDE SIDIK

SAPP has been saying for some time that a Sabahan at least sit in the Board, which has never been since the inception of Petronas. Unlike Sarawak, which even, has a Senior Vice President.

What has been voiced out by the President of Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association (SOGCA) Datuk Iskandar Datuk Malik has been reasonable with regards Sabah participation in oil and gas industries for the nation over the years

The only reason that I can give perhaps we’re too naive and easily contented. I wrote lately in response to query if only the agreement between Sabah and PETRONAS is made to sign today no reasonable Sabahans would want to sign.

Why Sabah not team up with Peninsula but instead Sabah with JV with foreigner? So now foreign contractors would rather pick foreign laborers from Thailand, Indonesia and Philippine and the like.

But something is a mist here, a place like Kimanis and it vicinities have many local want to work as laborer but local have no chance, this is where thing is not rightly addressed as far as for jobs for local people. We are talking about now not ten or five years ago, where now local can’t be choosy. Surely project like this beneficial to local areas.

If this is same kind of planning happen with Ammonia and Urea plant in Kg Banting, Sipitang that would be another disastrous.

  1. Petronas should consider allowing Sabahans to be included in the Board of Directors.

    1. Indeed, after all, they already have a Sarawakian on the board. I believe a Sabahan should be given the same opportunity as well

  2. We should at least have a say in issues relating to our own oil and gas. Sabah companies that are qualified should also be given a chance in projects.

    1. Sabah is one of the contributor for oil and gas, therefore it is only fair to have sabahan involved in petronas decision making and the projects.

    2. There are too many locals that are too choosy in terms of looking for a job. They should just grab the opportunity when it comes to them.

  16. Maybe petronas has reason why Petronas JV with foreigner. Example maybe the modern equipment by the foreigner. So we just want to know about this all.

  19. since our local contractors do not have any experience related to oil and gas, so why not they learn from foreigner who have an experience to handle an advance technology??
