BRIDGE COLLAPSED IN BEAUFORT

VISIT….Jamil Zakaria, Edward Ewol Mujie, Fred Fung and Jinlin inspecting Kg Tikuli collapsed wooden bridge.

THE wooden bridge crossing the river in Kampong Tikuli, Beaufort finally collapsed into the river and fallen into pieces during the flood and swollen river.

Sabah DAP Beaufort Chairman, Jamil Zakaria went to inspect the broken and fallen wooden bridge with Edward Mujie, Fred Fung and Jinlin on the 13th of November afternoon on the day of the collapse. The wooden had broken up into a few sections and washed down the river. The families and houses living opposite the main road were cut off from access, and there is no way to get across.

According to Jamil, they have informed the authority some years ago that the wooden bridge is in danger of collapsing and a new concrete bridge is needed to be built across the river.

The work on the construction of the new bridge was then in progress, and very unfortunately the work had started and later stopped for some unknown reason for many years until now. Finally the bridge collapsed into the river during the flood. It was lucky that there is no one or car crossing during that juncture, and a tragedy could occurred then.

Jamil said this is another typical Barisan Nasion project uncompleted, and it is causing the inconvenience of the people. How can we expect the government like this to take good care of the poor people? It is better for us to ditch them (BN) and have a change for a new government?

We can’t continue to put ourselves in jeopardizes anymore, and our suffering is getting intolerable day by day. The government is not managing a simple construction of a bridge well, how can they manage the country well? It is understood that the cost of this bridge is sky-high and the contractor is unable to execute the construction work efficiently.

The government should explain on what is happening, and don’t keep the people in the dark. We have the right to know and if the contractor is no good, please sack the contractor and replace him. Many projects in Sabah nowadays are either abandoned or totally stopped work and this is typical under the BN administration.
