THE DAP National Advisor and MP Ipoh Timor Lim Kit Siang will be visiting the Kudat District on the 19th of November 2010. There will be a ceramah session at the Sungai Wang Restaurant from 7.30pm onwards.
The main speakers will be the Assemblyman from Sri Tanjong Jimmy Wong, the KK MP cum Sabah State Chairman Dr. Hiew King Cheu with other leaders from the Pakatan Rakyat PKR and PAS.
Disclosing this, the Sabah DAP Kudat Chief Alex Wong said that he hopes the Kudat Pakatan Rakyat supporters and friends to turn up in full force to support the function and to make the function a success. The function is provided with light refreshment and drinks. It is advisable to come early due to limited sitting capacity. Some short video clips will be played to introduce the PR.
On the issue of that the none-bumiputra are reluctant to join the arm forces and the police, he said that it is ‘unpatriotic’ and it is unacceptable to many especially those in Kudat.
Many non-bumiputra especially the Chinese and Rungus people in the district were keen to join and take up this as a profession to serve the country, but quite unfortunately every time there is an intake or recruitment exercise in Kudat, the applicants were turned down and rejected. Many of these young people moved away to the city or even seek jobs in West Malaysia.
Alex Wong supported Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, the trustee of the 1-Malaysia Foundations, who suggested that the government should not blame the non-Bumiputra of not patriotic but to find ways on how to improve the recruitment system.
He further urges the government to review the standard and criteria used on the recruitment process, and he wants to know why there is such rate of reject on our local applicants. Are we not qualified enough to join the arm forces and police. The pay of the uniform groups may not be attractive, may be one of the reasons, so don’t just blame us!
On the point that if we don’t join the forces means that we don’t love the country, and that is ridiculous, if the conditions set is relaxed and there is no quota set, we believe that there will be plenty people interested to join the ‘golden rice bowl’! It is better to join the forces compared to begging for food in KL by the Sabahan.
