MOCKERY TAN SHOW DOUBLE-FACE’ CHARACTER

SABAH Industrial Development Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah has insulted the intelligence of the people of Sabah in particular the State Assembly Speaker for saying that an assemblyman has no right to request the Speaker to call for a motion on a White Paper for the Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) fiasco, said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah.

He said this was especially true since the Speaker Datuk Juhar Mahiruddin had already allowed the motion to be debated, in the first place.

“How could he just brush aside the motion in such an arrogant and insulting manner? He is indirectly saying that Datuk Juhar is not qualified to be the Speaker since he had allowed for the motion to be debated.

“Doesn’t he realize that the SAS issue is a significant issue that is close to the heart of the people, especially the investors, or maybe he just can’t be bothered with it as long as he gets to protect the interest of Barisan Nasional? Otherwise, why is he and his fellow BN colleagues in the State Legislative Assembly so adamant of rejecting the motion on a White Paper for the SAS fiasco?” he questioned in a statement issued here today.

He was obviously responding to Tan’s remark that an assemblyman has no right to request the Speaker to call for a motion on a White Paper when winding up the SAS White Paper motion in the just-concluded State Assembly sitting.

Chong also said Tan’s remark revealed his true colour as a shrewd-and-ungrateful ‘double-face’ character, forgetting the fact that he once stood firmly along SAPP on the SAS issue, when he was still its deputy president.

“It is very clear now that he was using his position for his personal gain. We are not bothered if this was done by other YBs but by him (Tan) it clearly shows that he has forgotten the party that has groomed him and gave him the platform to become a minister,” he said.

Chong said SAPP was also surprised to see Tan making a 360-degree turn on the SAS issue whereas more than 10 years ago when he was in SAPP his view was totally the opposite.
Chong further said SAPP was shocked to listen to Tan’s mockery of his former party boss, Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, during his winding up speech.

In his winding up speech, Tan had said that he sympathised with his two former party comrades Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan and Luyang Assemblywoman Melanie Chia because he said they would be scolded by Yong if they failed to push for the motion.
Tan also asked Chia to tell Yong that a White Paper on the SAS would not be a political bailout for him.

“If he wants to leave the party and stay in Barisan Nasional to safeguard his personal interest it is fine but it is not necessary for him to also mock and belittle the party that raised him,” Chong said.

He added that this also showed that Tan was not sincere in his struggle for the people except that of his own.
