DAP Sabah is concerned with the alarming figure of over 3.7million, 23 percent of Malaysian citizens, eligible voters are not registered as voters yet.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said that according to the records up to the third quarter of 2011, only 12,400,437 Malaysians were gazetted as voters compared to the number of those eligible to register at 16,131,571.

DAP Sabah New voter registration Bureau Chief, Junz Wong urged all eligible voters who are not registered, especially youth, to register now so that they will not regret missing the opportunity to vote in the coming 13th general election.

Please make an effort to register as soon as possible because it takes SPR some 4-6months to get your registration approved. It is a very long process so please do not procrastinate. Junz explained.

Eligible voters, who wish to register themselves, can either register at Post Office, SPR office or you can always drop by any DAP Sabah offices at Bundusan, Foh Sang or call 0128870106 DAPSY mobile team, to do voter registrations.

Meanwhile Junz mentioned SPR should do a much better job in terms of registering eligible voters.

More awareness campaign should be launched and more regular fixed/mobile booth should be set up. Millions of fund is allocated to SPR every year but results is less than satisfactory, Junz said.

DAP Sabah once again called for automatic voter registration system to be considered seriously, Junz concluded.
