Dear Editor,
I REFER to the statement issued on front page of a local paper with regards to Natives losing their land rights, 31 January, 2012.
Natives of Sabah lost vast areas of their ancestral lands due to the act of dishonesty and betrayal of those natives with political powers in the government and nothing else.
I cite a classic example of Kampung Karamunting in Sandakan whose existence right from the pre-merdeka days but had been wiped out from the map and replaced by the expansion of Sandakan port, where, promises to relocate the kampung inhabited by the natives, to Mile 4, along the Sibuga Road were never honoured by the native leaders in the present government.
18 years on since the promised made in 1992, the natives in Karamunting will witness not just Kg. Karamunting will vanish, but the whole area consisting of Karamunting Lama, Kg. Lupak Meluas and nearby kampungs will be gone for good. Who is to blame for this catastrophy? Aren't those in powers are natives themselves?
The emergence of fake Anak Negeris are a threat to the declining in the land areas owned by genuine natives. Again, the native leaders are the real traitors by simply endorsing and issuing letters certifying their dubious status in return for monetary gains.
The Majlis Hal Ehwal Anak Negeri which was presided by UMNO/BN leader easily issued letter recommending these fake Anak Negeris as genuine Anak Negeri hence having the eligibility to buy and own NT lands.
Datuk Harris Salleh's disclosure of the close to 1 million acres of lands alienated to landless smallholders during the Berjaya era, most of whom are natives, but were later revoked and given to big companies during the PBS era under the Chief Ministership of Datuk Pairin Kitingan, spoke for itself the act of betrayal and dishonesty of the native leaders.
HAMZAH ABDULLAH,
PAS DEPUTY COMMISSIONER.
Hope that the landowners will be able to retrieve their ancestral lands as it is their rights.
ReplyDeleteA native land tribunal should be set up to ensure that the people's land rights are well protected.
ReplyDeleteyes...the tribunal should be set up..
DeleteGood idea so that the people voice can reach to the respective in charge via the tribunal.
Deleteisu tanah sejak dulu hingga kini tak pernah selesai. tanah yang sepatutnya menjadi hak2 penduduk harus kita pertahankan.
ReplyDeleteSamalah macam isu PATI yang tiada kesudahan.
DeleteTrue, Antap. The native land rights should always be protected, many depended on their land as their livelihood.
DeleteSetuju running man.
Deletewhat is rightfully theirs, should be returned.
DeleteThe leaders should be able to help the people to fight for their rights as part of their duty.
Deletenatives have the right to protect their rights when they are being oppressed or their rights encroached.
ReplyDeleteThe delay in processing land applications continues to be among the main grouses raised at the Sabah leg of preliminary inquiries by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam)
DeleteThe delay of land applications should be remedied after so long, those who are appointed to handle the land applications should improve the efficiency of the processing.
DeleteGovernment is aware and concerned and open to listen to problems faced by the people that involves the natives
ReplyDeleteSome 90,000 hectares of land in nine districts where poor natives live will be given to them under communal titles. Two of these were given to more than 5,000 villagers in Nabawan and another in Lalampas of the Tongod district.
DeleteHopefully more to land will be given to the natives soon.
DeleteI'm sure more communal land titles will be given to the landless natives soon. Just be patient.
DeleteHopefully this matter will be look into by our state government.
DeleteThe matters that has being highlighted within this article is like a 'slap' to all genuine Sabahan.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is.
DeleteTimbalan Presiden PBS, Ongkili.
what happen to all lawyers from opposition parties? why not help them?? those who have a nice record in helping the affected villagers in term of land grab, should come forward to help the others villagers who face the same problem..
ReplyDeleteI don't trust PAS to solve the land issues in this state as the state ruled yang this party are also face the same problem..
ReplyDeletekelantan also faced the same problem..why PAS think that they can solve the land issues in sabah while in their own place still suffering?
ReplyDeleteThe relevant authorities should spend more time to go on ground, to meet with the people and deal with their probs.
ReplyDeleteBetul tu.
ReplyDeleteI don't find the reason why government reject the setup of tribunal.
