THE FORGOTTEN KG DELIMA MELAYU

OVERFLOWED…. Edward showing the overflowed drains.

THE BEING forgotten and neglected Kg Delima Melayu behind the 1-Borneo complex is having plenty of existing and pressing problems for a long time due to the authorities had not come to serve the area where it is inhabited by some thousand of people including the few kampongs around it.

This was disclosed to Edward Ewol Mujie, the Sabah DAP Vice chairman, when he visited the Kg Delima Melayu with the DAP Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu and other members.

The Kg Delima Melayu is basically a low cost housing built by the Sabah Housing Commission (LPPB) many years ago with hundreds of units of low cost houses (Enam Tiang). The housing is now densely populated and expending fast.

The resident here welcomed the DAP visiting team, and they really appreciate their arrival to their Kampong to listen to their problems. During the house to house walk about, Edward was surprise to meet so many people who knew him and had worked with him before.

The folks here took the opportunity to high light to the DAP that they have been neglected by the authorities and totally forgotten. The drains here are clotted up and filled with vegetation, foul water and mosquitoes.

The water in the drain is no longer flowing a long time now. The responsible authorities never come to dig and clear the drain. The drain water even overflows on to the road surface. There might be health hazard and dengue fever cases appearing. The authorities must send the mosquitoes spraying team here to spray all over the kampongs.

The roads here are full of pot holes and cracked up. There must be some urgent repair and upgrading work to get the roads here back into shape.

“There was not maintenance being carried out since we moved in many years ago”, recalled one of the residents here.

The people here also wanted the street lights here to be repair or renewed because the lights here are not functioning for a long time now and the whole village is so dark at night. This created a chance for crime to happen. They also wanted more police rounds to be conduct to this area especially at night hours.

The people here have lots of other complaints and they blamed the BN assemblywoman Datuk Jainab for not discharging her responsibility as the people’s representative for this area. They said they have not seen her face for all these years and don’t know where she is.

Unlike the DAP, they took time during the holiday and week end to come personally to walk house to house to understand the real situation in the kampongs. Their walkabout is proven very successful and along with their news reports had waken up the assemblywoman and the authorities to do something. We want to give the DAP a big thank you!

Edward said the authorities will have to come to help the people here because they are also tax payers and rate payers. They deserved the equal rights as every one else to enjoy healthy and conducive living environment. These people here in the Kg Delima Melayu and Kg Sungparai have to be taken care off.
