By : DATUK RICHARD YONG
IT has been more than a week ever since the debate in the Legislative Assembly over the SAS issue. At the debate, Minister of Resources and Information Technology, Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai, revealed that he has contacted the SAS Board about the RM 50 million.
This is the first time that he admitted being in contact with SAS. In the past, he had feigned ignorance of SAS affairs. News reports quoted Datuk Yee as saying that "SAS confirmed to me (Datuk Yee) yesterday that have never received any of the RM50 million….".
So, where is the RM 50 million? Did any person illegally pocket this RM 50 million? If so, who and why is no action taken? This is what many people are waiting to know. This matter has gone on for twelve years.
Eight of those twelve years, Datuk Yee was a full minster in the Cabinet. Don't try to fool the people that after eight years, he still does not know what happened in SAS. He has incessantly harped on the SAS issue. So, he must not hide the facts any more.
Then, out of the blue August 6, PBS Supreme Councillor cum Kapitan cum Peoples Development Leader (PKR) cum lawyer Chin Tek Ming challenged (SAPP President) Datuk Yong to disclose the names of the UMNO leaders involved in the SAS fiasco. Yong had never mentioned that UMNO leaders were involved in wrong doings in SAS.
Public documents show that the SAS Board has UMNO leaders but nobody, until Chin Tek Ming's challenge to Yong, opened up a can of worms. Is Datuk Yee trying to cover up this can of worms? Is this the real reason why BN leaders have refused to publish a White Paper on the SAS fiasco?
Why did the BN Cabinet use the tactic ‘defeated by time’ to knock out the motion by Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan at the Legislative Assembly on 22 April 2010? Datuk Yong at the time had labeled the State Cabinet as full of cowards and that Datuk Yee is a liar. This is a serious label but Datuk Yee could not answer back because it is true.
Why did the Chief Minister on 8 January say that the SAS issue was petty? Why did Datuk Yee claim that the reason for not publishing a white paper was because it takes a long time?
The record in the newspapers and the legislative assembly prove that the Ministers were trying to avoid a debate on the SAS issue. But when Datuk Liew Teck Chan successfully filed the motion for a white paper at the last assembly sitting, none of the 32 UMNO YBs took part in the debate. Why?
UMNO YBs have been very vocal on other issues but why did UMNO YBs remain silent on the SAS issue? Datuk Yee, Herbert and Chin Tek Ming should ask their UMNO colleagues.
Both Datuk Yee and his colleague Herbert Timbun Lagadan went further and suggested that improprieties have been committed concerning to the SAS and Warisan Harta Sdn. Bhd. As the police report of David Chong shows, Herbert even displayed a huge bundle of documents on his desk in the assembly.
But he kept the documents or evidence to himself. He chose not to offer the evidence to the MACC or the police. It was only after the police report by David Chong that Herbert was forced to say he will co-operate with the police (in the investigations).
Who is Herbert concealing the documents for?
